New Class! Intro to Belly Dance - 4-week workshop
Mondays, 6:30-7:30pm. July 27th-Aug. 17th (4 classes) $50 This 4-week course is a great prelude to Belly Dance Fundamentals. Students will learn some of the most common belly dance steps which include hip lifts, hip drops, figure eight undulations, pivot turns, basic traveling steps, and Egyptian style and twisting shimmies. This class is ideal for beginners. It is offered only one time per year. Ten student maximum. First come, first serve. Free Trial Class Pass can not be used for this class. |

In this popular workshop, participants will learn basic belly dance technique including sensuous undulations, hip lifts and hip drops, skirt-swirling spins, and shimmering shimmies. Drum Solo Dance

The drum solo is the highlight of the belly dancer's performance. It is the time where the dancer and drummer merge artistically to display a technical bravura of hip work and shimmies. This workshop can be geared to the intermediate or advanced dancer. Technique, with an emphasis on precision, and a short choreography will be taught.

Saidi Cane Dance

The Saidi cane dance, also known as Raks Al Assaya in Arabic, is an integral part of every belly dancer's performance. The dance originated in southern Egypt, in the region known as the Said or Upper Egypt. Its lively, heartfelt rhythm is considered the soul of Egyptian dance. Dancers will learn basic Saidi dance steps along with proper cane technique (holding, twirling, and balancing). Canes will be available for use or purchase at the workshop.

The finger cymbals are one of the essential props used by every belly dancer. In this basic workshop, dancers will learn how to wear and care for their cymbals, create an array of sounds, learn to play some of the basic Arabic rhythms, and, last but not least, dance with them. Student must come with finger cymbals sewn and ready to play.
