This friendly yoga class is designed for the beginner/intermediate level student. It moves at a medium pace. New students are welcome to do a free trial class. Students will work on all categories of poses - seated poses, standing poses, twists, forward bends and backward bends, balancing poses, and inversions. Instructor Ellie Pickering teaches Iyengar-style yoga and provides an assortment of props for ease and comfort. All are welcome!
Yoga Class Themes for the Fall Session
Class 1 - Easing into Fall
After having a month off from yoga, we will ease our bodies back into yoga with gentle stretching and strengthening poses. This class is a nice introduction for new students who may have not done yoga for awhile or are new to yoga.
Class 2 - Take a Deep Breath
The Fall season corresponds to the Metal Element, which corresponds to the lungs and large intestine. These organ systems become more vulnerable during the Fall. This class will focus on yoga poses that help to strengthen them, remove stagnant Qi and blood, and boost the immune system..
Class 3 - Matters of the Heart
In Chinese medicine, we say the heart houses the Shen or Spirit. This yoga class will focus on calming the shen and addressing matters of the heart (depression, anxiety, over excitement, palpitations, panic attacks, restless sleep, and more).
Class 4 - Balancing Act
In yoga, balancing poses require concentration. This class will focus on yoga poses that help build a good foundation for balancing. The relationship your foot has to the ground below affects every bone in your body. We shall work from the ground up to ensure proper alignment and good balance.
Class 5 - Exploring the Warrior Within
The Warrior poses are some of the most important poses in yoga. They help to build strength both physically and mentally. This class will focus on all three warrior poses.
Class 6 - Yoga by Candlelight
This quiet and deeply relaxing class will focus on restorative poses...poses that heal and quiet the spirit. And yes...with real candles.
Class 7 - Happy Halloween
Time for some fun! This class will focus on Halloween-themed poses such as cat pose, bat pose, candy corn pose, corpse pose, and more.
Class 8 - Yoga Sweet Yoga
As an avid baker, I love to share my creations with my students. This class is a student directed class where you get to choose your favorite pose and I will put them together in a mindful sequence. Afterwards....cake, pie, cookies, something deliciously sweet!
